Career Path Planning

In creating a clear path for your destination job, not only do you have to identify the jobs and careers that interest you, but you also need to follow up on your selections with the types of training and skillsets you are going to need to perform at a professional level.  The following suggestion steps for creating this planned path follow :

Step 1 : Narrow down your list of career prospects

With over 22,000 differet occupations to choose from, it is time to cut off the fat!  Eliminate those careers you know you have no interest in, and use a self-profile sheet that you've created (see our career tests section to do a self-profile) to help you eliminate even more.  Get the number down to a manageable list of 20 careers.

Step 2 : Research the careers further to get the list down to 5 career paths

Learn more about these prospects by visiting our career information section, as well as finding other sources of information to get a feel for what the different career will entail, and what it will take you to get there (i.e. career traing, skills you'll need, college, etc.).

Step 3 : Formulate and complete your career path planning

The last step is to take this information, and all of this research and create a career path plan for each of the 5 selected careers you've chosen to evaluate further.  What will it take for you to achieve your professional goal, and get involved with each of the 5 careers you've chosen?  Start from day one, and list out the steps you will need to go through to get each job.

The finalized planned career paths will allow you to see an overall picture of what it will take to get into the careers of your choice.  Now it is time to settle on one, based on all of your findings.  Next, use the rest of the vast resources on our site, along with your career path planning to begin your journey into you new life!
