Career Guidance

If you choose the path of self-exploration, the following steps must be taken in order to create your career plan.

  • Take some self-assessment career tests in order to identify your personality type, and help uncover your innermost career desires.  It is important to really focus on doing some exploration here, and taking all of the tests - be honest with yourself!
  • Next, in your self career guidance, it is important to find the segment of jobs and careers that fit the results of your testing and brainstorming.  Our career information sections has TONS of information on different career paths.  Make sure to do your research on the jobs that you think would fit your personality type, and make a list of the pros and cons of each in a grid!
  • Lastly, decide on 3 possible career pursuits, and lay out a path for each one listing the steps you will need to take to achieve your goal in each.  For example, if I want to pursue an Information Technology career path, I need to pick a discipline, schedule some classes and training, develop a good resume and cover letter, and look for open positoins.  Each path should include a timeline.  Lastly, you need to pick ONE to pursue based on your gut feeling about what would make you the happiest.

These high level career guidance tips should be followed in order - in the end you will end up with a comprehensive career plan that you'll be excited to follow!
