Step 4 - Uncover The Professional In You

Take an opportunity now to assess yourself as a person and as an employee.  These questions provide a starting point:

  • How would I describe myself as a manager?
  • How have I typically reacted to extreme stress and pressure?
  • What have been the most difficult kinds of work problems I've had to handle?
  • What are the best career decisions I've made, and why?
  • What are some words that best describe me as a person?
  • In what way(s) would I like to be different from how I am?
  • What aspects of my personality have been barriers to my effectiveness or success?
  • How do I typically react when I'm criticized?
  • What makes me angry?
  • What things in life are most important to me?
  • How would I define success?
  • Using my definition of success, do I consider myself successfull?
  • If I did not have to work, what would I be doing?
  • What do I like and dislike about work in general?
  • What are some of the rewards I expect from work?
  • What are some of the benefits on employer would enjoy by having me on the team?
  • What am I best trained to do next?
  • What are my short-range and long-term career objectives?
  • Have I, int he past, ruled out any career alternatives that I would now like to reconsider?
  • What career alternatives appear to be most logical at this point?
  • What other alternatives do I have?
