Thousands of people wake up one morning, and realize
they have not been doing what they enjoy professionally - and in life.
These are very common feelings, maybe it is time to look into a professional
change in your work or job.
Unless you know exactly what job you want to do (most people have no idea), it is
important to follow the steps below to ensure that you find a midlife career
change that suits you. Life is too short not to be happy with what
you do, so proceed with the steps below to begin a positive correction in your professional
career!
Step 1 - Browse different career paths
It is vitally important for you to browse through all of the different careers that
exists. Go in with an open mind, read the job descriptions, and ask yourself
if you would be happy doing that every day. Make a list of
10-15 careers that you could see yourself doing. Our career
information section has career profiles of hundreds of different jobs and
professions. It is a good place to start your research.
Step 2 - Take some personality and career tests
Our career
tests section is a great place to start to get a good feel for your personality
type and career tendencies. There are also a lot of
good books on this - to get an even more in-depth feel of your personal profile.
After you have taken some tests, which will help you determine the career areas you
are suited for as a person, take note and get ready for
step 3!
Step 3 - Compare your list of "prospect careers" with your personal profile
Time to do some more elimination. Match each one of your prospect careers to
your personal profile that you generated from the career tests. You'll know
if they match up - get rid of the ones that do not fit well with who you are!
Narrow the list down to 2 or 3 career paths.
Step 4 - Research, and GO FOR IT!
Last step, and it's the biggest! Yes, we are saving
the best for last! You know what you want to do, now it is time
to figure out what to do to get there. There are some great books to help you
research the specific career you have settled on, time to start doing the real work
- don't worry, it will pay off in the end!
